At the end of the day, my great-grandma and her siblings would gather up the family chickens, separating them from the neighbors’ chickens. This became a hassle, so to make it easier, she and her brother painted the chickens GREEN (my favorite color!) so when they gathered with the rest of the chickens in the neighborhood they could tell them apart.
My aunt recorded this story 30 years ago, but it wasn’t until I asked for stories that we heard it for the first time! and now it’s my why for this website.
How can you stand out as you search, find and share your family?
One way is to Ask!
We paint ourselves, standing out when we boldly try what we’ve never done. Ask for stories, ask about what you are interested in. And don’t be surprised to learn your love of art, music, theater, learning, farming, nature, etc. came from a family member. You are more like them than you think and sometimes comparing the resemblances or life choices is uncannily similar.
